In most of my newsletters, I like to provide a healthy snack or meal recipe that not only is delicious, but also helps to get you closer to that hard-body appearance that everyone is looking for. In this article, I’d like to give you healthy food ideas in a different way. This time, I figured I’d just give you some ideas of what I stock my fridge and cabinets with. Remember, if you don’t have junk around the house, you’re less likely to eat junk. If all you have is healthy food around the house, you’re forced to make smart choices. Basically, it all starts with making smart choices and avoiding temptations when you make your grocery store trip. Now these are just some of my personal preferences, but perhaps they will give you some good ideas that you’ll enjoy.

Alright, so let’s start with the fridge. Each week, I try to make sure I’m loaded up with lots of varieties of fresh vegetables. During the growing season, I only get local produce, but obviously in winter, I have to resort to the produce at the grocery store. Most of the time, I make sure I have plenty of vegetables like zucchini, onions, fresh mushrooms, spinach, broccoli, red peppers, etc. to use in my morning eggs. I also like to dice up some lean chicken or turkey sausage into the eggs, along with some swiss, jack, or goat cheeses. Coconut milk is another staple in my fridge. I like to use it to mix in with smoothies, oatmeal, or yogurt for a rich, creamy taste. Not only does coconut milk add a rich, creamy taste to lots of dishes, but it’s also full of healthy saturated fats. Yeah, you heard me…I said healthy saturated fats! Healthy saturated fats like medium chain triglycerides, specifically an MCT called lauric acid. If the idea of healthy saturated fats is foreign to you, there are several articles covering this topic at my site below.

Back to the fridge, some other staples:

• Cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, and yogurt – I like to mix cottage or ricotta cheese and yogurt together with chopped nuts and berries for a great mid-morning or mid-afternoon meal.

• Chopped walnuts, pecans, almonds – delicious and great sources of healthy fats.

• Whole flax seeds – I grind these in a mini coffee grinder and add to yogurt or salads. Always grind them fresh because the omega-3 polyunsaturated fats are highly unstable and prone to oxidation, creating high levels of free radicals in pre-ground flax.

• Eggs – one of natures richest sources of nutrients (and remember, they increase your GOOD cholesterol).

• Nut butters – Plain old peanut butter has gotten a little old for me, so I get creative and mix together almond butter with sesame seed butter, or even cashew butter with macadamia butter…delicious and unbeatable nutrition!

• Salsa – I try to get creative and try some of the exotic varieties of salsas.

• Butter – don’t believe the naysayers; butter adds great flavor to anything and can be part of a healthy diet (just keep the quantity small because it is calorie dense…and NEVER use margarine, unless you want to assure yourself a heart attack).

• Avocados – love them…plus a great source of healthy fats, fiber, and other nutrients. Try adding them to wraps, salads, or sandwiches.

• Whole grain wraps and whole grain bread (look for wraps and bread with at least 3-4 grams of fiber per 20 grams of total carbs).

• Rice bran and wheat germ – these may sound way too healthy for some, but they actually add a nice little nutty, crunchy taste to yogurt or smoothies, or can be added when baking muffins or breads to add nutrients and fiber.

• Leaf lettuce and spinach along with shredded carrots – for salads with dinner.

• Home-made salad dressing – using balsamic vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, and Udo’s Choice oil blend. This is much better than store bought salad dressing which mostly use highly refined soybean oil (full of inflammation-causing free radicals).

Some of the staples in the freezer:

• Frozen fish – I like to try a couple different kinds of fish each week. There are so many varieties out there, you never have to get bored.

• Frozen berries – during the local growing season, I only get fresh berries, but during the other 10 months of the year, I always keep a supply of frozen blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, cherries, etc. to add to high fiber cereal, oatmeal, cottage cheese, yogurt, or smoothies

• Frozen veggies – again, when the growing season is over and I can no longer get local fresh produce, frozen veggies are the best option, since they often have higher nutrient contents compared to the fresh produce that has been shipped thousands of miles, sitting around for weeks before making it to your dinner table.

• Frozen chicken breasts – very convenient to nuke up for a quick addition to wraps or chicken sandwiches for quick meals.

• Frozen buffalo, ostrich, venison, and other “exotic” lean meats – Yeah, I know…I’m weird, but I can tell you that these are some of the healthiest meats around, and if you’re serious about a lean healthy body, these types of meats are much better for you than the mass produced, hormone-pumped beef and pork that’s sold at most grocery stores.

Alright, now the staples in my cabinets:

• Oat bran and steel cut oats – higher fiber than those little packs of instant oats.

• Cans of coconut milk – to be transferred to a container in the fridge after opening.

• Various antioxidant rich teas – green, oolong, white, rooibos are some of the best.

• Stevia – a natural non-caloric sweetener, which is an excellent alternative to the nasty chemical-laden artificial sweeteners like aspartame, saccharine, and sucralose.

• Organic maple syrup – none of that high fructose corn syrup Aunt Jemima crap…only real maple syrup can be considered real food. The only time I really use this (because of the high sugar load) is added to my post-workout smoothies to sweeten things up and also elicit an insulin surge to push nutrients into your muscles.

• Raw honey – better than processed honey…higher quantities of beneficial nutrients and enzymes. Honey has even been proven in studies to improve glucose metabolism (how you process carbs). I use a teaspoon or so every morning in my teas.

• Whole wheat or whole grain spelt pasta – much higher fiber than normal pastas

• Brown rice and other higher fiber rice – NEVER white rice

• Cans of black or kidney beans – I like to add a couple scoops to my Mexican wraps for the fiber and high nutrition content. Also, beans are surprisingly one of the best sources of youth promoting antioxidants!

• Tomato sauces – delicious, and as I’m sure you’ve heard a million times, they are a great source of lycopene. Just watch out for the brands that are loaded with nasty high fructose corn syrup.

• Dark chocolate (as dark as possible) – This is one of my treats that satisfies my sweet tooth, plus provides loads of antioxidants at the same time. It’s still calorie dense, so I keep it to just a couple squares; but that is enough to do the trick, so I don’t feel like I need to go out and get cake and ice cream to satisfy my dessert urges.

• Organic unsweetened cocoa powder – I like to mix this into my smoothies for an extra jolt of antioxidants or make my own low-sugar hot cocoa by mixing cocoa powder into hot milk with stevia and a couple melted dark chocolate chunks.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this special look into my favorite lean body meals and how I stock my cabinets and fridge. Your tastes are probably quite different than mine, but hopefully this gave you some good ideas you can use next time you’re at the grocery store looking to stock up a healthy and delicious pile of groceries.

Favorite foods enjoyed by Americans for any given holiday, season or special occasion will likely include some ethnic
dish, given the many ethnic groups that reside in the country. Despite this variety of melting pot cuisine, there are some similarities in
dishes that will be a part of most meals during celebrations such as Christmas.
Christmas in the United States comes almost one month after another big holiday, Thanksgiving, in which the traditional
meal must consist of a turkey as the main dish. This dish also carries over into Christmas as roast turkey is one of the main dishes that
may be served for Christmas dinner. But unlike Thanksgiving, which is solely devoted to turkey meat, Christmas dinners may also
include other birds or poultry.  These include roast goose or duck. Roasted ham may also be served. Cranberry sauce, vegetables,
pumpkin pie and a plum pudding or fruity Christmas pudding for dessert tops off traditional Christmas dinners. Mince pies and pastry
that is filled with a mixture of chopped, dried fruit may also be added to the menu.
For drinks at Christmas dinner, a bottle of champagne is very popular, as well as wines. But the everyday beverage of beer
is a must for many people to make a meal truly enjoyable.
Before Christmas Day and the big dinner arrives, there’s also another type of food that Americans enjoy in large quantities
during the Christmas season. The consumption and sales of candies, gingerbread and other cookies and holiday treats increases rapidly
during the holidays. Similar to how department stores seek to attract shoppers to buy items for Christmas gifts, candy manufacturers
also put out special boxes and types of candies for Christmas and the holiday season.
A survey done  the National Confectioners Association found that many adults derived much pleasure at
Christmas from giving and receiving candies and other treats. In their responses the survey participants said that giving decadent
boxes of chocolate to friends and family, placing candy canes on the Christmas tree and hiding candy treats in Christmas stockings
were favorite ways to give and receive candies, cookies and treats during the holidays.tp://www.christmas.moneybizhome.com
Sweet treats remain popular at Christmas despite a constant message about dieting that is present in everyday life in the
media, in billboards and from some food manufacturers. At Christmas time, people feel free to enjoy the festive season without
constraints. But they also know that they can enjoy candies and cookies that are health conscious by eating ones that are targeted to the
low-carb dieter by having ingredients that are sugar-free and fat-free or both.
Cookies that are enjoyed at Christmas are often home-baked ones and usually include gingerbread items.  The tradition of
gingerbread cookies at Christmas is also believed to have originated in Germany and brought to America by German immigrants.
German bakeries began baking very fancy gingerbread houses with icing as edible snow and other decorations after the Grimm
Brothers published their children’s story, Hansel and Gretel. That story had a description of a house that was made of bread,  a roof of
cake and windows of barley. The popularity of the creations by German bakeries gave rise to cookie cutters that were made in a
variety of shapes, enabling small gingerbread cookies of various shapes to be baked at home. Some of these cookies that had the
shapes of little people and animals were used to decorate Christmas trees.
More than one hundred years ago from today, German homes in Lancaster County in Pennsylvania would have cookies
that were up to one foot high in the front of windows of their houses as decorative items during winter. The cookies were often giant
gingerbread men and women that had colorful rows of buttons and big smiles. Passersby were often cheered and intrigued by the sight
and brought the idea to their homes on a smaller scale.
Being able to enjoy special dishes, candies, cookies and other goodies during Christmas and the holidays adds a sweet
flavor to the season and also helps to create warm and cherished memories.

Even for people who are on diet, special foods are served. The burgers are offered with fries and high calorie foods like fried French onions, bacon and cheese.

The American desserts are legendary like the Pecan pie and Mississippi -mud pie. Tourists in the Deep South can enjoy the gumbo soup and jambalay. Maine is reputed for its lobster and exports them too. San Francisco celebrates a crab season since it has some of the world’s best crabs. An additional bonus is the Napa valley wine which is the best wine that the state has to offer. So, America has the variety of cuisine that is diverse and differs from state to state that is unique to them.

But American food is notorious for processed foods and junk foods are quite common in America. It is an understatement that junk funds have very bad effects on the health of a person. It is a bad habit that has to be controlled. America is mainly responsible for spreading the fast food culture and the result is that a majority of the American people are obese today. Cuba is a country that has a blend of different cultures and the Cuban cuisine reflects it. Cuba is famous for its lovely beaches, diving, and lifestyle and dancing. But, in spite of the influences of various countries like Spain, China, Africa, Portuguese, France and Arabic, Cuba has been successful in creating a unique flavor to its cuisine. Visitors to Cuba are fascinated by the cuisines of Cuba.

Cuban food makes use of local root vegetables like yucca, malanga and boniato. Cuban food also predominantly uses chicken, pork and beef although sparingly marinated in citrus juice and is mildly roasted to get a tender form. These dishes although simple to make, are delicious and are preferred by the visitors and locals alike.

Cuba is also known for simpler snacks and lighter treats that are made of lightly fried pork cuts, kebabs known as pinchos and the Cuban hamburger that is spiced with potatoes and onion known as fritas. But vegetarians can be starved, if they happen to visit Cuba because vegetarianism is literally unheard of, for reasons more than one in Cuba, except for a handful of rice and bean dishes and some local fruits.

Mango and guava are the fruits that are used for a variety of dishes and jellies. Rice dishes are also produced by Goya, rice and black beans and tasteful yellow rice. The meals are served with a variety of sauces and spices. Although tea is a favorite drink in Cuba, the tastes of light and dark coffee and cappuccino are just out of this world.

Meats are available in meals and desserts are served along with a cup of coffee or tea. Coffee takes a unique place in the Cuban culture and drinking coffee is done as rituals or social events. Cuban coffee is often served in smaller containers as against the traditional mug of steamy coffee because Cuban coffee is stronger than many other commercial coffees. The after dinner Cuban coffee is prepared in an espresso maker or perked on a stove top.

Cuban desserts are the sweetest in the world. Cuban sandwiches are made with Cuban bread that is slightly roasted and contains roast pork, ham pickles and cheese and mustard and make a delicious lunch food. Costillitas is a typical Cuban food made with citrus, garlic and herbs and cooked till tender and served with black bean and rice. Ropa vieja is one of the most popular dishes of Cuba, made from beef and vegetables in a sauce and locals say that it tastes better a day after preparation when the flavors mingle together. So, the Cuban cuisine contributes to one of the reasons to visit Cuba along with its attractions of beaches and dance.

When people go on a diet, they often think that they’ll have to deprive themselves of anything tasty or good for the sake of losing some pounds. While it’s true that you’ll need to deny yourself those fatty food items that you’re used to eating all the time, it’s also true that you can still find plenty of foods for weight loss to keep your dieting experience full of flavor and variety.

The best diets are ones that don’t force you to eat bland food every single day, and, pretend that you’re actually going to like it. I’m sure you’ve been on some of these strict plans that made you feel cranky and ready to toss out every piece of lettuce onto the cold, hard floor. I mean, yes, you need to eat healthy, but there’s got to be some enjoyment too.

Many people give up on their diet after two or three weeks because they just can’t take the loss of enjoyment any longer. We eat to live, but we also eat to savor and enjoy our food. Take away the joy, and there’s not really much incentive to eat another plate of greens with light dressing.

Some of the most popular diet plans available today feature cheat days – days in which you can eat whatever you like. While you don’t want to go hog wild on cheat days, you can enjoy these days with abandon, if you stock up on healthy food items. When your cupboards are filled with fatty foods, then guess what? You’ll eat them without thinking. If you stock up on tasty, but low calorie foods, you’ll still be able to stick with your weight loss goals without feeling guilty.

Here’s a list of low fat food items that can make your low calorie meals more enjoyable:

Beverages – Water (plain or flavored), seltzer water (plain or flavored), black coffee, regular or herbal tea, ginger ale, juices made from fresh fruits and vegetables, smoothies.

Legumes – Any canned bean or dried bean is good. If you like Mexican food, go for the low fat refried beans. Some varieties: peas, kidney, lentils, chickpeas, black, green, lima, pinto and black eyed pea beans.

Condiments – Low fat or fat free mayonnaise, mustard (yellow, spicy or flavored), tomato puree, tomato paste, tomato sauce, tomato juice, low fat butter or margarine, cooking sprays (olive oil, canola oil or flavored), balsamic vinegar, apple cider vinegar, tarragon vinegar, wine vinegar, horseradish, onion powder, garlic powder, seasoning salt, dried herbs (oregano, thyme, rosemary, dill basil, etc.), dried spices (cinnamon, cocoa powder, cloves, cumin, ginger, nutmeg, curry, allspice, paprika, etc.), extracts (vanilla, almond, maple, peppermint, etc.), cocoa powder and low fat salad dressing.

In 1350 AD we were still quite a few centuries from settling at Plymouth. I have been luckily in that I have found adequate records back to 1200s in my family tree. But this is the time of the end of the inhabitants and Civilization of the Mesa Verde Cliff Dwellers. Some stayed back we suppose, they are the Anastasi Indians.

The ever-increasing divergence of foods that is now available to us at our local stores and eating-places only help to confuse and tantalise us into new culinary experiments and delights.

If you have pain swelling and stiffness around your joints for more than two weeks, please see your orthopedic surgeon. These symptoms can develop suddenly or slowly. These symptoms could be arthritis. “Arthritis” is not a single diagnosis. There are more than 100 types of arthritis and only an Orthopaedic specialist can make the diagnosis after examining you and doing the necessary investigations.

Armadillo

From Texas to Ecuador, these nine-banded creatures have been coveted for decades. Their numbers are now greatly diminished due to years of heavy hunting; they’re still considered a delightful treat when they can be found. Usually cooked in stews to help tenderize their thick, dense meat, almost everyone who has eaten Armadillo really likes them. You’ve got to be fast to catch them though. They can burrow into the soil at alarming speeds.

A diabetic patient must eat lots of fruits and vegetables in which fibre content is very high. Such type of food lowers the requirement for insulin, the reason being it releases energy into the body cells slowly. A high fibre diet means more chromium, which is very helpful in the treatment of diabetes.

Canned or frozen foods are seldom eaten. Western desserts such as cookies, cakes, pies, and ice cream are eaten only on special occasions such as birthdays and weddings. After dinner, families usually eat seasonal fruit as dessert. Chinese desserts such as red bean soup, sweet white lotus’s seed soup, or steam papaya soup are served every so often as a special treat on a hot summer’s night.

The women spend many days, prior to the festival itself, preparing food, usually in groups. Much of this time is spent making the snack and sweet foods of which the Indians are so fond but as the actual Diwali day approaches, attentions are turned to the major feast.

This popular food court choices can fit into a healthy diet, but choose yogurt or tomato-based curries over creamy dishes as the ever popular butter chicken. Dahl with steamed rices has just 9.5g of fat and 1487kJ, whereas chicken biryani as an enormous 53g and 2925kJ. Also skip the naan and poppadoms as they’ll only add unnecessary calories to your meal.

Mexican.

Watch out when selecting Mexican foods. Although they can be rather spicy and very, very hot, a lot of times they come with heavily fried ingredients. Choose wisely here in regard to heat level, too. While Thai is considered one of the hottest styles of food anywhere, Mexicans can turn up the temperature a little too much for some people.

Adding peppers to everyday dishes. Small additions of Thai peppers, jalapenos or other hot peppers to dishes can achieve the same effect

Our society’s growing consciousness about the impact of our actions on the planet’s health and well-being is being felt in the kitchen. Increasingly, the trend in recipes and cooking revolves around finding ingredients that are produced locally. Home cooks are recognizing that fruit and vegetables grown in other states and other countries gobble up energy to package and transport them to market. This leaves a big carbon footprint – a consequence that a growing number of families wish to avoid.
Moreover, home cooks are discovering that cooking with locally grown fresh foods opens the door to a world of cuisines – literally. Today’s recipes and cooking trends put a global twist on fresh ingredients. If you’re in the mood for Asian food, for example, you don’t have to dine out. Instead, you can use the Web to research Asian food culture and find recipes that are easy to make at home. Likewise, resources for French food, German food, Italian food, and Mexican food are only a few mouse clicks away.
Vegetarians and those who are health-conscious are truly embracing these recipes and cooking trends. In the past several years, natural and organic foods have been finding their way onto grocery store shelves, and stores that specialize in fresh and natural foods are now a staple in virtually every city. Whether you adhere to a raw food diet or are simply trying to cut back on butter or sugar, you can more easily find the foods that you need.
At its best, cooking is an adventure. It’s fun to experiment with different herbs and spices, and to prepare your favorite foods in a new way. Combining local, fresh foods with global recipes and cooking techniques is a great way to keep your cuisine interesting and tasty.
As a result, shoppers are seeking out fresh food and produce that is locally grown. For some, this means regularly visiting farmers markets; for others, it means inquiring about the source of fresh food at the grocery store. Many others have the desire to take steps toward finding recipes and cooking with fresh produce and other ingredients, but aren’t sure where to begin.
Thank goodness for the Internet! For those ready to take the first steps, there is an abundance of information available on the Web. Armed with this information, shoppers can learn how to buy fresh produce, discover the types of produce that are in season, read articles about fresh food, and find recipes to prepare everything from delectable fresh fish, seafood, and meat dishes to delicious vegetable courses and dessert treats.
No one would argue that eating only locally grown foods can be a challenge. After all, it would be difficult to find fresh fish and seafood if you live in the desert, or unearth a source for locally churned butter if you live in a fishing village. Just keep in mind that perfection needn’t be the goal; even incremental changes in the way we think and shop will help the planet. And, with the plethora of information about recipes and cooking that is available on the Web, putting a global twist on local ingredients can put the adventure back in dining!

Indian food is as diverse as the geographical conditions of India and varies from region to region, strongly influenced by the various climatic conditions. Although Indian food is synonymous with curry, which forms an inevitable item, the basic food depends upon the grains that are predominantly grown in that region.

For instance, North India grows a lot of wheat and hence North Indian food comprises naan, bread and chapattis made from the flour of wheat and is similar to the tortilla of Mexican food that is made from corn. Chapatti is a slim Indian bread which is prepared by kneading the wheat flour and rolled and then baked. There are a variety of dishes made from the same wheat flour with slight variations-when the wheat flour is deep fried it is puri and when less oil is used, it is known as roti and a thicker and bigger puri is called bhatura and when served with plain or stuffed potatoes, onions and a variety of vegetables, it is paratha.

In south India, the predominant food is rice, since it is the staple crop grown in abundance. The various items prepared using rice along with white lentil includes idlis and dosas which have attracted and become famous among people from far and near. Pongal is another breakfast item made from rice along with a dal.

In western parts of India like Maharashtra and Gujarat, the breakfast comprises of dhokla and sheera along with a cup of tea. Basically, Indian foods form a complete balanced diet and are healthy in nature. The essence of Indian food are the spices which offer a lot of flavor and it also varies from region to region and is used in both vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes.

Usually Indian food is accompanied by pickles, pappads, dessert and chutneys. Indian food has also embraced cuisines that have been brought by the invading conquerors, for instance, biriyani has been imported from the mughals and has become quite popular among the Indian foods. This is a non vegetarian recipe and has been mastered by the nizam of Hyderabad. Tandoori style of cooking is a significant part of Indian food and is found in most of the Indian restaurants. Garam masala is a hot and furious spice that adds taste to these items. But the best tea is obtained in the eastern part of India where Darjeeling is known for it. Coconut and bananas are also famous in the eastern parts and are grown in large quantities.

India is a vast country with a lot of diversities and so is the Indian cuisine but can be adjusted to the personal preferences, as are the people of India who are strong and yet flexible.
